The fishing at Ryton Pool has improved greatly over the past two years and excellent catches of carp and tench are now a regular feature. Clearing of the fishing pegs has continued and there are now plenty of interesting swims. The restocking programme has continued with the introduction of more small carp and tench.
Best results come from a carefully prepared swim with enough bait to keep the fish interested. Groundbait with pellets, maggots and redworms work well and of course bread, which the fish see lots of when visitors feed the ducks. Big carp have taken a liking to fishy flavours and source boilies and go mad for sweetcorn. The best carp recorded so far is Roger Booth's 27 lbs 13oz featured in the newsletter. The feeder works early in the year but waggler is best in summer. A simple bolt rig with a hair rig works is best for boilies. Don't fish too light because the carp and tench fight hard and find the snags before you know what's happening! The carp and tench are getting bigger now, so make sure that you use carp-friendly nets and an unhooking mat for big fish
This venue has superb facilities for a family day out with walks to Ryton Wood, childrens' play areas, a hide for bird observation and several picnic areas. Over the next few years, the fishing will be developed and improved to give Leamington Angling members a great new venue whether your interest is in big carp, tench or silver fish.
Best baits at present are bread (the ducks get bags of it!), white maggot, red worm and sweetcorn. The feeder works early in the year but waggler is best in summer.
