GREAT WOLFORD PARISH COUNCILWHAT IS IT? WHAT DOES IT DO? The Parish Council is an elected local authority. It is a tier of local government which is closest to the people. It is not a voluntary organisation, a charity or something to do with the Church. Councillors have an active interest and concern for their local community. They represent local people and work in partnershipwith them and others when necessary. They help facilitate the provision of local services and amenities and take decisions that form the policy of the Council. Councillors are not paid and have to abide by a local government code and declare their financial interests in the Parish. Councillors must also declare a personal or prejudicial interest in any matter under discussion at a Parish Council meeting. The range of powers councils have are many and varied and include the purchase of land and buildings, providing and maintaining a village green, the provision of recreational facilities, crime prevention measures and traffic calming. The work of the Parish Council is funded by a precept collected with the Council Tax. You can then complete your entry and submit on line. Dogs in Great Wolford A number of people have contacted the Parish Council about the behaviour of a few dogs in the village and this is now causing some concern. The main problems seem to be an increase in dog fouling on footpaths, verges and in gardens; loose dogs straying on to the road and becoming a danger to road users; and continuous barking particularly at night. The Parish Council is hoping for dog owners' co-operation on this and, as a first step, we are asking dog owners to please make sure that their pets are properly controlled at all times and not causing a nuisance to others. Stones on Grass Verges Villagers placing stones to protect verges are reminded that the legal position is that such stones are considered an obstruction and they would be liable to any claim for damages/injury that may arise from it but only in very special cases of possible danger is it likely that the Highways Authority would take action Parish Tree Warden Councillor Bryan is registered as the Parish Tree Warden. Villagers should direct any questions concerning trees to Councillor Bryan for advice.
