Welcome to Ladbroke's Millennium Green

Our most recent events (all reported in the Activities page):

- A Village Fete on the Millennium Green itself, with pet show, tug-of-war, races, sideshows, bouncy obstacle course, band and all the traditional attractions including, of course, tea, cakes, drinks, hot dogs and ice cream. A successful afternoon which both puts the Green to good use and raises funds for its maintenance and improvement. Click here to see photos of the event.

- Toys for Boys - cars, motorbikes, model planes, a helicopter ... click here for more details and here to see lots of photographs of the event (this will open in a new window).

- Quiz night - grey cells buzzing in a packed hall.

- Race Night - all the excitement of the course in the warmth of the village hall.

- Blues night, click here for more details and pictures.

New development in the Childrens Play area.
The new toddlers' swings are now installed and in use, together with a replacement seesaw and bench.  This is the first of two phases; click to see the approved sketch plan for both phases for the development (this will open in a new window).

Background
The villagers of Ladbroke, Warwickshire, in the heart of England, decided to celebrate the Millennium by creating a new facility for people of all ages. We formed Ladbroke Millennium Green Trust to raise finance, acquire the site and develop and maintain the Millennium Green in accordance with the villagers' wishes and the Trust's aims. We have raised funds through many village events and generous donations.

The Millennium Green now provides an open air centre for the village with a children's play area, seating, rest areas, wild flower meadow and wildlife habitat. As a focal point we have erected a tall Millennium Stone with a time capsule buried at its base.

History
The Green was developed on an area of land known as Macklin which has a long recorded history. The Manor Court Rolls in 1784 include a complaint: "In the foot road from Ladbroke to Southam a plank wants 2 posts and a hand rail; the descent out of the ground called Macklin to Macklin Bridge is dangerous for want of a fence against the brook..." The plank has been replaced by a solid bridge and the fence now forms part of the border of the Millennium Green.

The Aims of the Trust
  • Make a substantial contribution to the life of the community
  • Be able to be enjoyed by people of all ages and physical abilities
  • Be open and evident to visitors to the locality as well as inhabitants

  • Include an area suitable for community events and celebrations
  • Include significant 'natural' areas where people can enjoy nature and wildlife at first hand
  • Make a positive contribution to the local environment and respect the established character of the area
  • Remain safely and conveniently accessible from inhabitants' homes
