Campaign for a cycle route to link Kenilworth & Leamington Spa
K2L Reborn! Cycleways, the local cycle campaign group, has relaunched the "K2L" campaign for an improved cycle route between Kenilworth and Leamington Spa. On Saturday 7th June 2008, simultaneous rallies took place in Cycleways spokesman Rodney King said "Many of the regular commuting journeys along this road could be made by bike, if only there was a proper cycle path. As fuel becomes more expensive, lots of car drivers would like to try commuting by bike, but they are deterred by the conditions on this road." He added that surveys carried out by the group have indicated that most car drivers would also like to see cyclists separated from the cars on this route. At present Warwickshire County Council policy is to concentrate on cycle routes within built up areas. We believe that the K2L route is needed more urgently and would help many more people to take up cycling. They aim to persuade the County to move the route up its list of priorities. K2L is a community campaign. We all want a safe route for cyclists between the two towns. This would be good for the environment, ease congestion, and keep us healthier. The 4 mile journey is an ideal distance to cycle, but the heavy traffic on the A452 puts off all but the bravest cyclists. Our achievements: Awareness raising events...household survey...postcard campaign...LTP briefing for councillors...scheme research and development....securing support from local organisations. In 2006 Warwickshire CC recognised the need for the scheme by including it in the Local Transport Plan. Now we need your help to give the implementation of the scheme the priority it deserves!
